Drogadictos Anonimos is a Non-Profit organization, founded in 1983 by Mr. David Cervantes Grimaldo in Mexico, the group has served thousands of people wishing to recover from Drug and Alcohol addiction. After the first few years of its initial introduction they realized that more was needed than just a 24 hour assistance. What was needed was a full integrated Group home program for those that wanted and needed the assistance. Since then 31 Group homes have been established throughout Mexico. Where not only are their Adult men and women groups but also group homes for children.
In the year 1999 Drogadictos Aninomos established a group home in the heart of New York city which was later helped open another group in Miami, Florida in 2006. Under the name “The Corona Self Help Center” it is in full operation with over 30 people in each group at all times. It is a Non-profit organization that is available for all those that seek help in recuperating from drug or alcohol addiction.
All groups whether in Mexico or in the United States follow the same principles of the original groups, which is that anyone person who wishes to recuperate from their addiction may join the group. Regardless of their social status, age, ethnicity or sexual orientation. For that main reason all services are completely free, including therapy, lodging and food. This is given to the person for as long as they need it, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. All groups are run by voluntarily support, other sober recovering addicts, help another fellow addict in need. All groups follow the Twelve step program taken and adapted from Alcoholic Anonymous groups in order to fit their needs. Each group has established some sort of workshop were the group helps to self sustain itself, rather than receive full government funding. Having this workshop also enables the recovering addict to acquire skills that will later help them in being integrated back into society.
